The Good And The Not So Good News.

There is good news on the wage front and not surprisingly, it has to do with the recent tax cuts:

More companies are hiking wages and salaries than at any time over the last 18 years, according to a survey of business economists released Monday.

The National Association for Business Economics said the net percentage of those companies which have increased wages and salaries over the last three months rose to 48 in January, up from 37 in October and the third-highest reading since April 1982.

Not a single respondent said their wages have dropped, according to the NABE survey.

No matter how you look at it, that’s significant.

More people getting more money because of less governmental burdens on businesses is always a good thing.

The survey shows several things:

Haters Gonna Hate.

(From Af Branco at Comically Incorrect.)

Sadly, there is a lot of truth to this cartoon.

Frankly, this is not just a “Democrats hating Trump” issue either. We can remember when there were Republican during the Obama administration whose only response to Obama was hate and not ideas.

People need to be better and counter ideas with ideas and not with the empty rhetoric of hate.

That being said, Branca also has this joke on his site:

It’s Not “Political.”

Brevard County District 2 Commissioner Jim Barfield

According to the Florida Today, Brevard County District 2 Commissioner Jim Barfield got slapped with a fine over an ethics violation:

Brevard County Commissioner Jim Barfield has agreed to pay $1,750 in civil penalties to settle a complaint filed with the Florida Commission on Ethics by Suntree resident Matt Nye over mistakes in Barfield’s past financial disclosure reports.

The ethics complaint was filed by Matt Nye, who has declared to run for Thad Altman’s seat in the Florida House. In other words, Nye is a politician as well.

Nye organized the Brevard Tea Parties, and now serves as chairman of the Republican Liberty Caucus, the national parent organization of the local Republican Liberty Caucus of Central East Florida, which he founded in 2008.

Barfield labeled the complaint as “political” in nature, and he may be right.

Barfield said Nye’s ethics complaints amount to “political games. It was all political.”

That accusation of being “political,” deals with the reasoning behind the complaint, but it doesn’t deal with Barfield’s mistakes on the required filing forms. Here is what Barfield said about the errors:

Everyone Should Stand for the National Anthem.

Why should every American stand for the National Anthem? Because the Anthem and the flag represent America, and America is a free nation. That alone is worth standing for. Joy Villa, singer, songwriter, and recording artist, explains.

A Bit Of Housekeeping……..

We mentioned the other day that the password file between the bogging software and the blog’s database had somehow become corrupted which is why people saw an error message in the morning.

Our friends at our ISP HostWinds fixed the problem, but inadvertently either created, didn’t address or didn’t notice another issue. That second issue was that none of the WordPress plugins we run on this site were working.

We didn’t notice it either to be honest.

The next day and the following day we saw as sharp spike in spam comments. When we looked, we discovered that the anti-spam plugin called “Akismet” was not only not working, it wasn’t even installed anymore.

Uh oh.

We went to install the plugins and each time we got an error message saying “unable to create directory,” which meant something was happening again with the database.

A quick chat with Hostwinds yielded the answer that when the software was reinstalled, it changed the name of the plugin folders and wouldn’t allow the creation of a second folder for them.

Our friends at Hostwinds changed the folder name and all we had to do was to go back and activate the plugins.

However, while we think that everything is back to normal, we aren’t sure.

Therefore we are asking you that if you see something hinky or not working, please let us know in the comments, or you can send us an email at the address on this page.

As always, we don’t publish anything you send us without your permission, so don’t be afraid to reach out to us.

What Happens When You Get Electrocuted?

A shocking, but educational video.

Most of the cases we call “electrocutions” are actually electric shocks: an electric current running through a body. Whether an electric shock becomes an electrocution depends on the nature of the current involved.

This Beat Down Brought To You By Mike Rowe.

You may know of Mike Rowe:

Michael Gregory Rowe (born March 18, 1962) is an American actor primarily known as a television host and narrator. He is known for his work on the Discovery Channel series Dirty Jobs and the CNN series Somebody’s Gotta Do It. He also hosts a podcast, The Way I Heard It with Mike Rowe, which he describes as “short stories designed specifically for the curious mind plagued with a short attention span”. Rowe hosts a series produced for Facebook called Returning the Favor, Rowe finds people doing good deeds and does something for them in return. Rowe has narrated programs on the Discovery Channel, The Science Channel and National Geographic Channel such as Deadliest Catch, How the Universe Works, and Shark Week. He has appeared on commercials for firms such as the Ford Motor Company. He has served as a social activist on the causes of economic growth and job expansion as well.

Past efforts include being an opera singer and a salesman.

Recently, Rowe received a comment on his Facebook page from a person by the name of Rebecca Bright who sought to have Rowe fired from his position as a narrator on “How The Universe Works.”

Rebecca Bright writes…

“I love the show How the Universe Works, but I’m lost on how the producers and the Science Channel can allow anti-education, science doubting, ultra-right wing conservative Mike Rowe to narrate the show. There are countless scientists that should be hired for that, or actors, if you must, that believe in education and science that would sound great narrating the show, example: Morgan Freeman. Cancel this fools contract and get any of your scientists so often on the show to narrate it.”

The problem with Bright’s comment is that none of the things she attributed to Rowe are accurate. Not. A. One.

If we were Rowe, we probably would have labeled Bright as an ignorant fool who believes only in her world view and in doing so, has closed her puny mind to other thoughts.

Rowe took a different route and it is one that we can all learn from:

Well hi there, Rebecca. How’s it going?

First of all, I’m glad you like the show. “How the Universe Works” is a terrific documentary series that I’ve had the pleasure of narrating for the last six seasons. I thought this week’s premiere was especially good. It was called, “Are Black Holes Real?” If you didn’t see it, spoiler alert….no one knows!!!

It’s true. The existence of Black Holes has never been proven. Some cosmologists are now convinced they don’t exist at all, and the race to prove their actuality has become pretty intense. Why? Because so much of what we think we know about the cosmos depends upon them. In other words, the most popular explanations as to how the universe actually works, are based upon the existence of a thing that no one has been able to prove.

The Jordan Peterson Interview.

Professor, clinical psychologist and author Jordan Peterson sat down with Britain’s Channel 4 presenter Cathy Newman last week and the result was what was called a “fiery interview” which has been taking the internet by storm. The interview delves into the alleged gender pay gap, free speech, patriarchy and a host of other issues.

The interview also turns into a debate as Peterson skillfully refutes the accusations Newman makes.

Two things have been noted by many on the internet and we think they are worthy of the attention they are getting.

First, Newman tries to make Peterson look horrible due to his refusal to cede control of language he uses to others.

The discussion concerning freedom of speech was sparked due to Peterson’s famous refusal to capitulate to the Left’s demands over language. He said he was “not going to cede the linguistic territory to radical leftists, regardless to whether of not it was put into law,” he explained during the interview. As you can imagine, his refusal to bend became centered on transgender pronouns and Peterson was labeled “transphobic.”

The professor reiterated that he’s no such thing and said he’s never called a student by an “incorrect” pronoun, nor would he. “I never mistreated a student in my class,” he said.

During the discussion, Newman makes a statement that Peterson turned around and exposes her hypocrisy and the hypocrisy of all people who want to legislate speech – both compelled speech and speech that is censored.
