Christmas Canon – Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

We’ve run this duo for a couple of years now and it is one of our reader’s (and our) favorites.

It is a bit of a two-fer today as we listen to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra perform the “Christmas Canon.”

The song is set to the tune of Johann Pachelbel’s Canon in D Major with new lyrics added.

There are two versions the Orchestra performs. The first is in a very classical style, and the second which we have included below the fold is “rock music” based. It is amazing how similar yet different and beautiful both versions are.

Classical version:

Rock version:

We like them both.

(As we listened to the more rock-ish version, we were struck by the last note the blonde singer hits and maintains. The note starts at 2:46 and ends at 3:03 of the video. That’s 17 seconds for those of us keeping score at home. Pretty impressive.)

The lyrics:

Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas

(Merry Christmas) the joy that he brings
(Merry Christmas) the joy that he brings
(Merry Christmas) the joy that he brings
(Merry Christmas) the joy that he brings

This night
We pray
Our lives
Will show

This dream
He had
Each child
Still knows

This night
We pray
Our lives
Will show

This dream
He had
Each child
Still knows

This night
We pray
Our lives
Will show

This dream
He had
Each child
Still knows

This night
We pray
Our lives
Will show

This dream
He had
Each child
Still knows

On this night
On this night
On this very Christmas night

On this night
On this night
On this very Christmas night

On this night
On this night
On this very Christmas night

On this night
On this night
On this very Christmas night

On this night
On this night
On this very Christmas night

On this night
On this night
On this very Christmas night

On this night
On this night
On this very Christmas night

On this night
On this night
On this very Christmas night

      Percy,

      Thanks for the comment.

We know how you feel in needing something uplifting.

The “Christmas Music Extravaganza” is one of our favorite traditions here, if not our absolute favorite.

The problem this year with the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas being shorter than normal is that some of our favorite songs may not make it this year.

We just hope that when people come to the site, they find something that makes them smile, comforts them, or makes the nostalgic for times past.

      And for times to come.

      Thanks again for the comment.

      A. Afterwit.
