How Lucky……

A.A. Milne (of Winnie-the-Pooh fame) once wrote:

“How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”

We feel the same. “How lucky we have been to have had something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”

Yet saying goodbye is what we are doing.

As of today, we are closing this little part of the blog-o-sphere down, at least in its current form.

Our little group of authors and writers are facing issues in our personnel lives. At least three of us are moving out of the area which means we won’t be focusing on the Brevard County scene as much. We all voted to allow one of our staff members to take the keys to the blog with them as they start a new part of their lives in another city up north. There will be a new iteration of “Raised on Hoecakes,” but they are not saying when that will happen.

(In other words, check back from time to time. The blog will be back, we just aren’t sure as to when as they will have work to do on the backend php, a new design, new theme, etc. All that has to be done before they can return to writing, seeking new authors, new graphics, etc.)

Our little motley crew of people have been doing this for over a 11 years. None of us ever made a penny. We never took advertising or asked for donations to a “cookie jar.”

We paid all the associated bills out of our pockets.

It was always a labor of love to us.

We want to thank the over 40 authors who contributed posts and posted under their own name or the name “A. Afterwit” for over 6000 posts. In those posts were over 5500 original graphics, some of which are in use on the internet (and not by us.)

We want to thank those who encouraged us, and to those who linked to us.

We want to thank the people who sent us links, stories, ideas and leads.

Most of all, we want to thank the readers of Raised on Hoecakes and especially those who took the time to make a comment. We didn’t always agree, but one of the things we wanted to do was to make sure that people could disagree without being disagreeable. We hope we have achieved that.

We wish you and your families the best for the future.

We started this blog as a bit of a lark – just some friends getting together to discuss and vent on issues of the day. We were shocked when we made it to a year anniversary. We never dreamed we’d be doing it for eleven years.

We’ve been lucky – luckier than a group of people deserve to be.

We never planned or talked about how to end it, but the time has come to end it, at least in its current iteration.

(Raised on Hoecakes ver 2.0 is being planned!)

Of all the words in all the posts, our last word in our last post from our group as a whole is the hardest to say.

“Goodbye.”

Awww! Sad news! My gratitude to your team doing for a thankless job. You’ve helped us stay informed on local issues that we weren’t going to hear about otherwise. I learned about many things from your site. I hope everything goes well with the transition and that we’ll be hearing from you again soon. Take care and God bless!

      Lola,

      Thanks for the comment.

While it may be sad news, it is just time. People don’t realize the amount of time and effort it takes to run a blog like this. Most blogs seek to be monetized, but we never did. We would get offers to run ads or sponsor articles, but we never did. We never wanted anyone to think that we were taking a stance for a dollar.

We will miss the people and the comments, but at the same time, when God closes one door, He opens another.

Thanks again for your comments and input through the years.

      A. Afterwit.

I really enjoyed your website over the years, it was the one place I could go to find the true story and facts behind a lot of our local issues. The whole team at ROH did a great job. The ROH team can definitely end this chapter of their lives with the knowledge and satisfaction that only comes from a job well done. Well wishes to all your future pursuits and I’ll be looking forward to ROH 2.0. Thanks again.

      Percy Veer,

      Thanks for the comment.

We always appreciated your comments on the blog. We appreciate your kind words here as well.

Good luck to you and your family!

      A. Afterwit.

Well said, Percy. I only discovered ROH about a year ago & rarely missed an article. I found them to not only being humorous at times, but have been amazed at the amount of research that went into the analysis of the subject material, quoting judicial rulings, backing it up with a link. Your members did a terrific job & will be sorely missed.
