New York Mayor Bloomberg To Seize Stanley Cup.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York announced Thursday he plans on seizing the National Hockey League’s Stanley Cup when it visits New York.

The Los Angeles Kings defeated the New Jersey Devils 6-1 on Monday night to claim hockey’s Holy Grail, besting the Devils four games to two.

Kings’ forward Dustin Brown and defenseman Rob Scuderi are from New York. Traditionally, the Stanley Cup spends a day with each team member of the Stanley Cup Champion during the off season.

“Other than marrying my wife and the birth of my kids, this is the best day of my life,” an emotional Brown said “I can’t wait to get this thing home and let my parents see it. They are the real reason I am here.”

In a press conference on Thursday, Mayor Bloomberg congratulated the Kings on their success, but noted the cup is larger than allowable by law.

“We respect the tradition of the NHL and the Cup, but we have made a commitment to the health and well being of our citizens. We have made it clear cups larger than 16 ounces are not allowed in New York,” said Bloomberg referring to the controversial ban on large soft drink containers. “The Stanley Cup is larger than the legal limit and we have to confiscate it for the benefit of the NHL players and our citizens.”
