Truther Roaches.

On Saturday, we went to the Melbourne Arts Festival to do the Steve Bussey Radio Experience as we said we would. For the most part, it was a fun time and we got to meet a lot of nice people. If you are ever in the area on the last weekend in April when the Art Festival is happening, please take our advice and go.

When we got to the show and found our booth, Steve Bussey came up to Producer Jerry and myself and said “hey, there is a 9-11 truther walking around here. I told him he could talk to you guys.”

There is a reason for this. Jerry and I are the engineering and computer geeks on the show.

We looked at Steve and said “9-11 truthers are like most conspiracy theorists – you’ll debunk one thing and they will bring up another. You debunk that and they;ll bring up another. Eventually they will come back and start to repeat things you have debunked already. They are like cockroaches – they will keep scurrying around no matter what you do.”

We were hoping the guy wouldn’t come back around.

But he did.

In the first hour of the show he came back while we were getting ready to talk about funding of the arts. (An appropriate topic for the day since we were at an arts festival.)

We never heard a word of the discussion. Not a single word that was said between Jerry and Steve. You see, while they were talking about the funding of the arts, We had the fun time of engaging with the “truther.”

It was not a pleasant sight.

In the end, we had drawn a crowd. The people in booths to either side of us were happy with that. Steve and Jerry actually walked away to do the show.

It started innocently enough. He asked us “what about the collapse of the World Trade Centers?”

Our answer would be a consistent one throughout the conversation: “What about it?”

“What about the fact that to melting point of steel is not as hot as the burning temperature of jet fuel?”

This is an argument that truthers always try and present and it is based on ignorance in that they believe for something to fail, it had to be turned into molten metal. That is not the case:

Jet fuel burns at 800° to 1500°F, not hot enough to melt steel (2750°F). However, experts agree that for the towers to collapse, their steel frames didn’t need to melt, they just had to lose some of their structural strength—and that required exposure to much less heat. “I have never seen melted steel in a building fire,” says retired New York deputy fire chief Vincent Dunn, author of The Collapse Of Burning Buildings: A Guide To Fireground Safety. “But I’ve seen a lot of twisted, warped, bent and sagging steel. What happens is that the steel tries to expand at both ends, but when it can no longer expand, it sags and the surrounding concrete cracks.”

“Steel loses about 50 percent of its strength at 1100°F,” notes senior engineer Farid Alfawak-hiri of the American Institute of Steel Construction. “And at 1800° it is probably at less than 10 percent.” NIST also believes that a great deal of the spray-on fireproofing insulation was likely knocked off the steel beams that were in the path of the crashing jets, leaving the metal more vulnerable to the heat.

But jet fuel wasn’t the only thing burning, notes Forman Williams, a professor of engineering at the University of California, San Diego, and one of seven structural engineers and fire experts that PM consulted. He says that while the jet fuel was the catalyst for the WTC fires, the resulting inferno was intensified by the combustible material inside the buildings, including rugs, curtains, furniture and paper. NIST reports that pockets of fire hit 1832°F.

He has no answer for that.

“What about the fact that WTC 7 (World Trade Center Building 7) was undamaged and collapsed?” he said.

“It wasn’t undamaged,” we replied. “The debris from the towers ripped off a good portion of the south side of the building. That and a raging fire from a diesel tank in the sub basement weakened the building to the point where it could not stand.”

“What about the fact that there was no debris in Pennsylvania?” he then said.

“The plane cratered almost vertically into the ground and the debris filled the crater,” we said. “Do you have any questions that are based on facts?”

“What about it was a missile that hit the pentagon and not a plane?” he asked.

“Once again, you are basing your questions on something that is not factual. Do you know what missile carry jet engines?” we said.

This continued to go on for what seemed like a long time. Every question he would ask, we would answer. He could not rebuff the answers, so he just asked more questions.

We got into a long series of questions of “what about….” to which we replied “what about it?”

Like most truthers and conspiracy theorists, he was not interested in the truth at all. He just wanted to ask questions. He didn’t care about the answers.

(Not surprisingly, he was a Ron Paul supporter as well.)

The discussion got heated.

He asked about autism, election rigging, Democrats and Republicans, and everything in between. To be honest with you, we are convinced he had no clue as to a single thing he was talking about.

This is something that you see in a lot of conspiracy theorists. They don’t really understand the issues, so instead they join with other conspiracy theorists to be empowered. Only they can “see the truth.” Only they know what is “really going on.” Instead of looking objectively at facts, they only look at opinions that bolster their beliefs. The opinions then become “facts” in their minds.

We finally got to the point where he asked about “genetically engineered food.”

“What about genetically engineered food?” he asked.

“What about it?” we replied.

“What about the fact it isn’t good for you?”

We had heard this issue before and had done some research on it. A British study (and we apologize that we can’t find it now) had studied the issue and had found the nutritionally, genetically engineered food and so called “green” foods are the same. There is no nutritional difference.

He did not refute that.

“What about the pesticides and all that?” he said.

“What about it?”

“They make you sick.”

Actually, the exact opposite may be true. Pesticides and genetically modified foods have been shown to have a longer shelf life. Therefore when eating a piece of fruit for example that has been sprayed and genetically modified as compared to the so called “organic” fruit, the organic fruit has broken down and started to spoil much sooner and much faster. You are therefore more likely to eat spoiled organic food than food that has been modified and sprayed. (This is not to say that you should not wash food to remove the pesticides. That would be silly to not do.)

He then asked “what about the fact that these foods make you dumber?”

We snapped.

“Well, you are living proof of that,” we replied.

Oy vey.

The crowd smiled and the owner of the radio station came over and asked us to stop. We agreed. The people in the booth next to us thought the guy we were talking to had some sort of mental issues. We won’t go there, but we can see why they thought that.

The bottom line is that you can’t reason or make “truthers” see the truth. They aren’t interested in the truth.

The more information you present, the more questions and other arguments they put up in front of you. They are simply like cockroaches who run away from the light.

(Eating genetically modified food that makes they dumb, of course.)

I think 9/11 is the best thing to happen to Rednecks since the South won the War to keep Indentured Servitude in place as Viable Institution. Like you, my only heartfelt allegiance is to the Confederacy, long may She prosper! As a gun-toting White Male, w/ a four-wheel drive pickup that runs over commies, ragheads, feminists, and fags, I must say that if killing all the Islamist faithful is off the table as a strategic option, it needs to be put back on the table!! We’re gonna kick Mohammad’s ass just like we did Lincoln’s! ‘Cause I’m proud to Kill to keep My Babies genetically and ideologically Pure-Bred! What the Middle East needs is an Insect Bomb dropped on it. Or an A-Bomb — watch them go scurrying to their Virgins THEN!!

We did 9/11 because Most of the rest of the world are INSECTS masquerading as Human Beings and these Imposters NEED to be Exterminated! Now that the Confederacy has finalized a pact with the Third Reich (the world’s only other Nation of Honorable Men), we need get together and make a CLEAN SWEEP! I’m with you — let’s rid the world of dissident ROACHES. Sieg Heil!

PS You’re going to grossly misrepresent the position of thinking people who have a problem with the official 9/11 narrative, I’m going to grossly misrepresent yours. Btw, some of these ‘roaches’ are NYC first responders: cops, fire fighters, reservists, EMT personnel etc. Not to mention folks who lost family members and, god forbid, dare to demand coherent answers to questions vital to issues of national security (needless to say, said coherent answers have not been forthcoming).

Oh Ben, if you are going to try sarcasm, at least be good at it.

But I will give you credit for one thing ….. you proved my point.

You see, instead of addressing what was actually said and presented, you went and changed the subject to something else. That is what so called “truthers” and “conspiracy theorists” do. When confronted with ideas that are contrary to theirs, they change the subject.

You see Ben, it is not that there are coherent answers out there. It is that you and people like you won’t accept them. You and people like you seem to have problems with acting like an adult and saying “gee, we were wrong.”

Instead, you run around making unfounded, unsubstantiated claims after listening to “Loose Change” or Alex Jones and think you have some inside clue as to what happened. It makes you feel so much better thinking you know more than the rest of the world. Instead, what you “know” just demonstrates your ignorance.

      Have a nice “truther” day.
