We Wish…..

Pelosi says Trump is not welcome to give State of the Union Adress at the House of Representatives due to security concerns caused by the shutdown, Trump responds by canceling her overseas trip for the same reason.

Via the satire site Duffleblog comes this gem:

BAGRAM AIR BASE, Afghanistan — Service members currently deployed to Afghanistan were devastated when they learned that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and her entourage of congressmen had cancelled their planned visit this past weekend, sources confirmed today.

President Donald Trump halted the congressional delegation’s trip seemingly in response to Pelosi suggesting the president cancel or delay his State of the Union address, citing security concerns. The bus filled with congressman was stopped at the way to Joint Base Andrews where military aircraft were prepared to carry the representatives to Afghanistan.

“It’s terrible,” Staff Sgt. Paul Morin said. “They were going to cancel the vehicle inspection so we could all go shake her hand for six seconds, but then we had to clean all the vehicles three times.”

“It’s a shame,” Sgt. 1st Class Mark Klages said. “Morale has gotten get pretty low around here with the holidays being over, the awful weather, the ANA’s incompetence and our confusing strategy, but it would have helped a lot to be talked at by an old lady from San Francisco.”

Some service members seemed confused as to who the current House speaker actually is.

“Pelosi? Of course I’m upset she didn’t come,” Sgt. Frank Lauer said. “She’s the hot Puerto-Rican one right?”

“They were going to get an exhaustive, in depth tour of Afghanistan too,” Capt. Christopher Yu said of the oncoming delegation. “The air field, the chow hall, the hangar where we keep the drones we still have control over, the briefing room, the other chow hall. They were going to get to talk to soldiers and airmen who aren’t allowed to leave the wire and the seven Afghans who still have the clearance to come in here. I don’t know how they’re going to be able to make any decisions about a country we have been in for seventeen years without that experience.”

The outrage over the canceled trip extended to the top of the chain of command.

We wish we had the ability to write and or draw such biting and on point satire.

We don’t, but we are glad that some people do.

Wow, Sad to see that cancelling this trip is such a hardship on our proud men and women in the military but they are a unique breed who have been trained to overcome hardships such as these.

Now, if we can just get the House of Representatives back in DC doing their jobs instead of vacationing in Hawaii and Puerto Rico maybe they can get the government properly funded and opened back up. I thought one of their main functions was to produce a budget that can get approved by the required branches of government but they haven’t done that in many years (shame on both political parties for that one).

One more thought, I worked my entire career in the private sector and I can tell you right now if a private company had a serious problem they called an all hands on deck and no one went home or on vacation until the problem was solved. Time for our elected officials to get to work and solve this mess.

      hometown,

      Thanks for the comments.

We wonder what the outcry from workers would be if they were not going to be compensated for not working. Both the House and the Senate have approved the measure, so while people aren’t getting a paycheck now, they will eventually. That paycheck will cover the days of the shutdown even though the workers performed no work. No private company pays workers when work is not done.

The shutdown is, in our opinion, showing that the Federal government can use a serious reduction in force (RIF). Such a RIF is highly regulated, but it is a good place to start.

Finally, we just saw this on another site and we like it.

“I disagree with the President cancelling the Speaker’s plane to Kabul….
He should have canceled her plane ride back.”
