Candidate Forum Tonight!

Tonight the Satellite Beach Women’s Club will be hosting a candidate’s forum for the upcoming election in the city. Mayoral candidates Frank Catino and Trever Lowing are attending, as well a City Council candidates Mark Brimer, Llody French, Lorraine Gott, and Scott Rhodes.

The forum will be moderated by a representative from the Tiger Bay Club, a non-partisan political group.

The format will be similar to that of the last forum where audience members can write questions on a card which are then read by the moderator to the candidates. We believe this format is not the most conducive to getting specific answers from candidates as by design, the questions are general in nature.

Our neighbors to the north in Cocoa Beach held a candidate forum this past Saturday in which the format included questions read by a moderator and following that, direct questions to the candidates were asked by audience members. In our opinion, this is the best of both worlds and we hope that in future forums the Satellite Beach Women’s Club would allow citizens to ask specific questions of candidates in addition to the questions submitted on cards.

That is our hope for the future.

For now, we hope the citizens of Satellite Beach take the time to attend the forum and listen to the candidates. An informed vote is a vote well cast.

The forum takes place October 23, 2012, at the Scotty Culp Municipal Center at 7:00 PM.

Be there.
