Wouldn’t Playing Catch Been A Better Choice?

Allow us to introduce you to Michael Williams, who is certainly a candidate for the “Florida Man Father of the Year Award.”

Williams, who is 26, decided that it would be a good idea to drive his 10 year old son to another house where other kids were gathered and allow his son to shoot paint balls at the kids – a sort of “drive by paint balling,” we suppose.

Williams’ son took his position in the open sliding door of a van and in a move reminiscent of the video game “Grand Theft Auto,” drove by the home with the son getting off several shots.

The problem was that the homeowner where the gathering was, had not been contacted or advised of the “drive by” and thought his home and guests were under attack.

Police said the boy opened the side door to the van his father was driving and began shooting paint balls into a crowd of people that were gathered in the front yard, including children.

Gregory Barns, who lives at the home, believed he and his family were under attack and fired a real gun, striking the boy, authorities said.

According to the arrest report, Williams sped off while the side doors were still open, which caused his son to lose balance and fall to the ground.

A witness told police that the boy’s legs ended up under the van and the rear tires ran over him.

Well, that plan went swimmingly.

Not only was Williams’ son shot, he was run over by the van his father was driving.

No additional details on the child’s injuries or condition were released. Williams drove the child home and his mother called 911, according to police.

The Miami Herald reports the father was charged with child neglect with great bodily harm. According to a police report, Williams “acted recklessly by agreeing to conduct a drive-by paint ball shooting,”

It would have been so easy for Williams to call Barns and tell him of the plan that hopefully was designed as a prank on the other kids.

Instead, Williams is now charged with a crime, and his son was shot and run over by a van, because, after all, shooting at kids from a moving van is so much fun!

Wouldn’t a nice game of catch have been better?
